This survey report concerns the restoration and rehabilitation of the Somerwell House in Yorktown, Virginia, which had already been completed (1938). The proposed work is an interior conversion from present office use to residential use. The home occupies a prominent position on Main Street and is important for contributing to the feeling for the 1781 appearance of Yorktown. In itself, the structure is not known to be associated with any event or person of outstanding historical significance. It is also proposed that the original exterior appearance should be retained to what was thought to exist in 1781, and related outbuildings should be constructed when landownership and budget permit.
