This article is a study of brickmaking and tilemaking in the Virginia Colony during the early years of the Jamestown settlement in the 1600s. It includes information about the documented use of bricks, the discovery of kilns, the process for brick and tile production, and characteristics of Jamestown bricks and tiles. Generally, documentary records and archeological remains show that Jamestown colonists made their own bricks, and the process and product closely followed English tradition.
