This report describes the restoration of the Barraud House in Williamsburg, beginning with the history of the structure and its association with Dr. Philip Barraud, who came into possession of the house prior to 1796. The restored Barraud House is a well-known house in Williamsburg, with particular attention given to its garden. The house appeared to have developed over a period of years from the original one-room house to an enlarged house of greater length and depth. It has two chimneys with corner fireplaces. The particular sections of the report provide details about the parts of the house. It also includes a chronology of lot and house ownership, a list of definitions used in architectural drawings, and guidelines on dating of a building. Restoration was started in January 1942 and completed in August 1942 by the Department of Architecture of Colonial Williamsburg, Inc. in consultation with Perry, Shaw, and Hepburn, architects.
