White-tailed deer may occasionally need to be anesthetized for research or management purposes at Fire Island National Seashore. An Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) will review the anesthesia study protocol prior to implementation of anesthesia for research projects. This protocol may include anesthesia prior to euthanasia.
