Salem-Beverly Harbors Tributaries Water Quality Survey 1985

Massachusetts Department of Environmental Quality Engineering. 1985. Salem-Beverly Harbors Tributaries Water Quality Survey 1985. #14,269A-42-75-12-85-CR. Massachusetts Department of Environmental Quality Engineering. Westborough, Massachusetts

A compilation of the results of field and laboratory analyses conducted on the rivers and brooks leading into Salem and Beverly Harbors in 1985 by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Technical Services Branch of the Massachusetts Division of Water Pollution Control. The main purpose of these surveys was to develop a water quality data base for waters entering the harbors. Water quality data was collected from 22 stations and sediment data from 11 stations on the rivers and tributaries flowing into the Salem and Beverly Harbors during the period of 8-11 July 1985. Water quality samples were analyzed for temperature and dissolved oxygen, five-day biochemical oxygen demand, total kjeldahl-nitrogen, ammonia-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen, total phosphorus, total alkalinity, pH, suspended solids, total solids, total and fecal coliform bacteria and chlorides. Water and sediment metal samples were tested for arsenic, aluminum, cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, iron, zinc, silver and mercury. Sediments were further analyzed for percent volatile, total kjeldahl-nitrogen and total phosphorus. Selected stations were analyzed for volatiles and oil and grease. Tidal data is included.
