INTRODUCTION: On September 26-27 1968, we made a trip to the western mountain region of North Carolina to observe and collect emigrating gray squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis carolinensis, which had become victims of road kills and drownings. Our purpose was to collect freshly killed specimens to determine the degree to which they were parasitized and to determine if the degree of parasitism was an important causal factor in emigration.
