First Nearctic Record of the Orthoclad Genus Tavastia Tuiskunen (Diptera: Chironomidae)

Saether OA. 1991. First Nearctic Record of the Orthoclad Genus Tavastia Tuiskunen (Diptera: Chironomidae). Insect Systematics & Evolution. 22(4):385-388

ABSTRACT: The male imago of Tavastia cristacauda sp. n. is described from a swamp in Michigan and the Blue Ridge in North Carolina. The new species shows that Tavastia most likely belongs to the Pseudosmittia group of genera. The combination of hairy eyes and wings with no setae on squama, and ridged, hairy anal point is unique among orthoclads.
