From the introduction: "For my senior project at College of the Atlantic I knew I wanted to explore plants in a scientific study that was my own from beginning to end. I wanted a field work component where I gathered my data in the wild, not just from organisms controlled experimentally. Preferably it would be local to Mount Desert Island, giving me a chance to further explore the place I had lived for the past four years. A study of autumn leaf color change in Acadia National Park fit all my criteria."
