This report primarily concerns an architectural investigation of the Van Campen Inn in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Souder contests claims of the inn's importance and rumors that President John Adams once stayed in the inn, pointing to the inn's small original size and the fact that the only parts of the building dating to Van Campen's ownership were demolished in 1917. Included are architectural drawings of the building both in its existing condition and in its original condition. Souder contends that the only architecturally significant details of the building are of the interior, with stairs and paneling of an 18th century style. The report recommends removing the paneling and stairs, re-installing them elsewhere, and demolishing the building. Also included is a survey of twenty buildings of local interest. That survey is fairly surface-level, with a short description, photo, and preservation recommendation for each building.
