After the National Park Service acquired Scotty's Castle as part of Death Valley National Monument (now Death Valley National Park), it became evident that records and documented drawings of the originally installed mechanical-electrical systems were non-existent. The comprehensive survey and inventory of all mechanical-electrical systems of the main Castle building complex and adjacent grounds were needed before the facilities could be functional. the report text was primarily concerned with the original systems and any subsequent substantial alterations or revisions performed during intervening years which were needed to update or adapt the existing systems for other than originally intended use. The project consists of an investigation of mechanical and utility equipment pertaining to all facilities in the complex, a description of historic arrangements and existing conditions, and a listing of specific recommendations for any required remedial action.
