This completion report describes the comprehensive stabilization of Wildrose Canyon Charcoal Kilns at Death Valley National Monument (now Death Valley National Park), a day labor job by the Ruins Stabilization Unit of the Southwest Archeological Center. Project activity involved general stonework, resetting loose stones and mortar, replacement of missing stones, grouting and pointing, new mortar, stabilization of the lime kiln, and site work. This document includes information about the plans, surveys, supervision, and timeline associated with this project. The structural history and site conditions are described briefly; the kilns were built for the Modoc Consolidated Mining Company and were completed in 1877. Charcoal produced at the site was hauled across the Panamint Valley to the Argus Mountains where it was used as fuel for smelting. The structures were probably not used after 1879. Completion report with project costs, photographs, and a drawing are also included.
