The Gate House, Building 9 of the Edison Laboratory complex, was built in 1890, three years after the initial construction of the Edison Laboratory complex. At the time of the report, the Gate House was in use as the visitor entrance station and reception building. The interior, however, is described as deteriorated and drab and lacking in proper facilities. The report recommends complete rehabilitation of the building, requiring the rebuilding of the floor area and excavation beneath the floor to create sufficient crawl space. The report also notes the interior partitions and woodwork as having historical significance.
