Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section: The Bridge and Dam
Pearson BE. 1981. Historic Structure Report, Architectural Data Section: The Bridge and Dam. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Boston, Massachusetts
The purpose of this historic structure report is to record the history and existing conditions at, and to make recommendations for the preservation/restoration of, the bridge and dam at Val-Kill. The present bridge at Val-Kill is in the same location as a low bridge shown in a ca.-1925 photograph immediately before construction of the stone cottage. Exactly how old the bridge was when the photograph was taken, or who built it, is not known. It may have been associated with an earlier (ca. 1876-1911) farmhouse on the property. Recommendations were made to reinforce the bridge's structure, so as to allow passage by heavier vehicles. The report also includes notes of repairs that were made after the initial writing of the report.
