This report concerns the Officers Quarters (HB-18) of the Fort Davis National Memorial. In operation from 1854-1891, Fort Davis serves as one of the greatest examples of a typical frontier military outpost of the U.S. military in the 19th century. HB-18 was constructed as an Officers Quarters and was probably completed in 1885 . It was definitely finished before March 31, 1886 . The occupants and their ranks are unknown . Local tradition holds that important Non-Commissioned Officers lived there and in the other three two-story buildings north of officers row. This report suggests that the Officers Quarters and its outbuilding are to be given modified restoration as part of the historic scene. Walls are to be reconstructed where, and to the extent, necessary to support a new roof and to arrest deterioration. Adobe preservation techniques will be applied and authentic roofs and porches constructed. This will accomplish the dual purpose of preserving the original material and creating an effect similar to the historic period.
