This report concerns the Commanding Officer's Quarters (HB-7) of the Fort Davis National Memorial. In operation from 1854-1891, Fort Davis serves as one of the greatest examples of a typical frontier military outpost of the U.S. military in the 19th century. HB-7 was constructed in 1867 after the United State military's reoccupation of the fort. The report proposes that the building is to be fully restored and furnished as a typical colonel's quarters of the 1880s. Its central hall is to have exhibits illustrating the way of life of Army officers' families on the frontier. The kitchen building belonging to this structure will be reconstructed but its interior will not be restored nor furnished. It is to serve as a interpretive device in demonstrating and explaining the history of Fort Davis and its occupants' lives.
