This report is aimed at securing and synthesizing all data pertaining to the appearance and armament of the Fort Donelson Water Batteries in February 1862. Set along the Cumberland River, the Water Batteries at Fort Donelson were essential to the Confederate strategy in defending the Cumberland valley. The report details the kind, number, and location of the guns historically mounted in the water batteries, as well as the locations of magazines, ammunition stores, ground cover, among other elements of the batteries. The report also serves as a historical narrative of the water batteries' origin and function at Fort Donelson.
