This Historic Structure Report concerns the Dover Hotel, a historic structure of Fort Donelson National Battlefield, which was the site of the first surrender of a Confederate army in the field during the Civil War. Partial restoration and refurnishing of the Dover Hotel is necessary to adequately interpret the surrender theme at Fort Donelson. The Dover Hotel will be an adaptive restoration, based on historic photographs and illustrations the exterior of the building will be restored as closely as possible to its appearance in 1862. In the basement the traditional dinning room will be restored, a historic period kitchen reconstructed, a utility room and artifact storage will also be provided. The first floor will be adapted to provide visitor contact audiovisual room, office and public restrooms. A through bedroom apartment will be provided on the second floor.
