Community science to address environmental change: Connecting schools to community to increase science capacity

Zoellick B and Hooper S. 2019. Community science to address environmental change: Connecting schools to community to increase science capacity. Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park

From the abstraact: "We summarize the work that Schoodic Institute has been doing to increase the capacity within rural communities to make evidence-based decisions as they respond to change. We posit that there are assets within communities that could contribute to such capacity but are underutilized because they are disconnected. In particular, we see the public school system as such a resource. We review our work to date with Gouldsboro and RSU 24 as a case study that has helped us refine this conjecture, and we outline plans for scaling up the investigation. We present the poster with the hope that it will stimulate conversations about translating research into local practice. We seek critical feedback to shape our work."
