The National Park Service is pleased to make available this Condition Assessment Report as part of our ongoing efforts to support the preservation of National Historic Landmarks. The National Park Service administers a number of preservation assistance programs, including the National Historic Landmarks Program, to promote historic preservation and community revitalization. National Historic Landmarks are nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. The National Park Service (NPS) has commissioned this report to evaluate the National Historic Landmark Stone (Fountain) Hall, an unused building located on the campus of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia for the purpose of assessing its current condition and establishing treatment recommendations with associated costs to stabilize and secure this significant historic building. The stipulated goal of the report is to make recommendations on how to mothball the building per the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Structures for a period of 5 years as a proposed time frame during which funds can be raised by Morris Brown College to restore and reuse the resource. The scope of this report is to outline the building’s condition (as of September 2018) and to propose treatment recommendations to mothball before further significant damage occurs.
