This project compares the self-described roles of volunteer and staff walk leaders in the national park systems of the United Kingdom and the United States. Transcripts of oral interviews were tabulated for common thematic elements until saturation was reached. While the two park systems differ widely in land use policy, leaders in both countries felt strong connection to the land and encouraged visitors to find enjoyment in nature.
