The National Park Service (NPS) Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network (NCBN) initiated benthic habitat mapping projects from 2014-2018 at four coastal parks in the Northeast Region with four different research institutions through supplemental funding following Hurricane Sandy. This document describes the list of data deliverables and associated specifications that was developed for these mapping projects. The list is comprised of 32 datasets grouped into five data categories (sidescan and bathymetry data; sub-bottom seismic reflection profiles; ground-truth data; geological features and surficial sediment classification; habitat classification), as well as a sixth category for large format maps and a final report. Specifications include acceptable file formats, metadata needs, geospatial referencing preferences, and other details unique to each deliverable. This document also includes two appendices. Appendix A presents the data deliverables and associated specifications for benthic mapping projects as bulleted checklist for ease of reference. Appendix B presents a suggested file directory structure for benthic mapping projects to assist with data organization and management. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to NPS data and project managers and project Principle Investigators in the establishment of benthic habitat mapping projects and the final review of data products. This guidance is meant to ensure consistency and compatibility across projects, but also to be flexible and adaptable to accommodate the goals of a given project and NPS objectives.
