Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. This Historic Structure Assessment Report surveys the Warehouse (Bldg. 49) at Fort Hancock, providing photographs, floor plans, statements of deficiency, and preservation recommendations. The warehouse, built in 1942, is a 9100 square foot, wood post and beam structure with ship lap siding. It has an asphalt shingle roof and four large wood loading bay doors.
