Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. This Historic Structure Assessment Report surveys the Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters (Bldg. 84) at Fort Hancock, providing photographs, floor plans, statements of deficiency, and preservation recommendations. Building #84 is a 2-story frame duplex covered with clapboard on a brick foundation. It has an asphalt shingle gable roof and a single story addition. The Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters was built in 1883 as housing for the lighthouse keeper for the Sandy Hook Lighthouse.
