General Grant National Monument–the final resting place of President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife, Julia–is the largest mausoleum in North America. This Historic Structure Report gives administrative and historical data necessary to the rehabilitation and updating of the Memorial. It is proposed to develop and maintain General Grant National Memorial as both the place of interment of General Ulysses S. Grant and his wire and as a memorial dedicated. to the memory of that man. A shift of emphasis from the "mortuary to the interpretive" is proposed.
