Devils Tower Hand-Sample Mineralogical Analysis

Devils Tower Hand-Sample Mineralogical Analysis. Research Permit and Reporting System

The goal was to characterize mineralogy within the Devils Tower phonolite in order to understand which cosmogenic nuclides could be present in useful concentrations at Devils Tower. Results showed that the most abundant minerals were generally albite and other alkali feldspars (>60%), including potassium-rich members which occur predominantly on the rims of the phenocrysts. Actinolite and other feldspathoids are also present in appreciable quantities (>5%).
