Ruins Stabilization Report: The Old Post Office, Lee's Ferry
Richert R. 1967. Ruins Stabilization Report: The Old Post Office, Lee's Ferry. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Southwest Archeological Center, Globe, Arizona
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area for hundreds of miles, from Lees Ferry in Arizona to the Orange Cliffs of southern Utah, encompassing scenic vistas, geologic wonders, and a vast panorama of human history. This report covers stabilization work performed September 20-22, 1967, on the old post office, Lee's Ferry, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The work was of an emergency nature, confined to one wall of a building in response to urgent requests from the Regional Director, SWR, in August 1967. The fort complex consists of four structures: the fort with the Spencer Addition, the Dugout, the Post Office, and the Chicken Coop. In summarizing this small job, 35 cubic feet of wall and core area was reset, using 3.5 sacks of cement, a half-sack of hydrated lime, 15 mounds of mortar color, and .6 cubic yards of sand. Tinted mortar along the masonry joints was intentionally held back an inch or more from the facing so as to give the impression of what the historical architects term "dry-wall masonry." At any rate, the new work matches the old.
