The Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS) and Clemson University (CU) entered into Cooperative Agreement Number P13AC00443 to survey the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) era structures and features within Kings Mountain National Military Park and adjoining Kings Mountain State Park and prepare a Historic Structure Report for the buildings, structures and landscape features designed, planned and constructed by CCC crews between 1936 and 1942. During its short duration, the Civilian Conservation Corps put thousands of unemployed young American men to work on hundreds of projects across the nation. Improvements to existing recreational facilities in local, state, and national parks and the construction of new state and federal park facilities created a significant legacy that has opened public access to historic places and recreational opportunities for more than eight decades.
