Since 1990, severe abnormalities have been recorded in more than 55 species of amphibians from more than 45 states in the US and three countries abroad. Our own field and laboratory studies in California have isolated trematode parasite infection (Ribeiroia ondatrae) as the cause of severe limb abnormalities in several populations of Pacific treefrogs (Pseudacris regilla). Field data support that Ribeiroia may cause malformations in an additional eight amphibian species across the Pacific North
