The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site preserves Springwood, the birthplace, lifelong home, and burial site of Franklin D. Roosevelt. An archaeological background study for the proposed vista restoration at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt (HOFR) National Historic Site in Hyde Park, New York, was conducted by Boston University’s Office of Public Archaeology for the National Park Service. The study included a review of sources on the prehistory of the area, an examination of secondary and primary historical sources on the town of Hyde Park and on the project area, as well as an examination of cartographic sources. The study concludes that there is potential for prehistoric and historical archaeological resources, within the project area. A program consisting of field reconnaissance and subsurface archaeological is recommended.
