This field based project was designed to provide morphological and compostional data for major soil areas in Yellowstone National Park. Vegetation and parent materials were used to identify sampling areas. This report provides basic characterization data for the soils sampled in 1980 and 1981. These data represent a baseline for subsequent ecological range, or forest based research, as well as applied information for Park Management Activities. Yellowstone National Park provides an extremely unique resource for soil-vegetation research. It's hoped that this project will provide a basis for other research to further our knowledge of soil-plant-animal environments, and to assist in the assessment and development of management guidelines to preserve this and other unique environments.
