This historic structures report concerns the Rhodes Cabin in Great Basin National Park. The historic structure, Rhodes Cabin, is to be rehabilitated for use as a trailside interpretive shelter in which historic and prehistoric exhibits will be housed. Present exhibits in the visitor center are inadequate in developing these secondary interpretive themes. The rehabilitated exterior of the cabin is intended to present a visual image of a pioneer log cabin; the interior will simply provide fitting environs for historic and prehistoric interpretive displays. The facility will be operated with no increase in interpretive or maintenance personnel. Rehabilitation of this one-story 12' x 20' log cabin with a sod roof will involve disassembly, replacement of many totted or missing members, preservative treatment, and reconstruction on a concrete foundation. Historical research on the cabin is essentially complete, but professional staff assistance will be required in order to prepare the required drawings tor Part II of the Historic structures Report, and to provide advice on rehabilitation methods and techniques.
