The structure covered by this report is the proposed new reconstruction of the North West Company stockade at Grand Portage National Monument. The stockade, including palisade, gates, and gatehouses, was the principal feature of the depot operated at the Lake Superior terminus of the Grand Portage by the Montreal-based North West Company during the period ca. 1778-1803. The stockade will be one of the Park's primary in situ exhibits, and in itself will be considered a prime historic structure.
