Historic Structures Report, Parts I-II: The Tipton-Oliver Barn
Brown LE. 1968. Historic Structures Report, Parts I-II: The Tipton-Oliver Barn. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service
The historic data section of the Historic Structures Report on the Tipton-Oliver Barn was written to satisfy the requirements of RSP GRSMH-1. The barn will complete a complex of historic culture building.s which demonstrate the mode of life in the Southern Appalachians prior to 1890. This building has neither name nor building number. It is a barn similar to the one that existed at the Tipton-Oliver place about 1890 or 1900. It is intended to replace building 183, a modern, post-1900 barn. The barn of cantilever construction will be moved to the Tipton-Oliver complex to replace an existing wood frame barn which is out of character with the other buildings in the complex. This will permit the preservation of a complete farm group on original site.
