This standard operating procedure (SOP) incorporates SOP 8 Coarse Woody Debris—Version 1.3 of the Vegetation Monitoring Protocol for the Cumberland Piedmont Network (White et al. 2011) and extends it by following SOP 1.4.12 Fuel Load Measurements—Version 1.0 (Boyle et al. 2019a) as implemented in the Terrestrial Vegetation Monitoring in Southeast Coastal Network Parks Protocol Implementation Plan (Boyle et al. 2019b). It describes how to collect information on downed woody material and other fuel load measures. This procedure is implemented as part of the South Florida Caribbean Network Forest Vegetation Monitoring Program Implementation Plan (Whelan et al. 2020). Coarse woody debris, fine woody debris, and litter/duff/fuel beds are components of fuel load measurements. The datasheet used for this SOP includes SFCN Veg Form 4—Woody Debris Measurements. It is included in Appendix A of this SOP.
