This historic structures report concerns the reconstruction of two structures in the Ephraim Bales Farm complex at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The complex is located on the Cherokee Orchard - Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. The structures slated for reconstruction are the Wood Shed and the Meat House, neither of which have physical remains at the site. The Wood Shed will measure approximately 8 feet by 10 feet and be closed on three sides. A shed roof, sloping front to rear, supported by four log posts and beams at front and rear will complete the structure. The roof is to be constructed of peeled pole rafters, rived shingle boards, and hand split shingles. All wood shall receive a protective and waterproofing treatment. The soil under and for two feet outside the building perimeter shall be treated for termites. This Meat House will measure approximately 12 feet by 12 feet and be constructed of hewn logs, supported on a reinforced concrete and stone foundation. The gable roof will overhang the front wall approximately two and a half feet. It will be rib pole and roof board construction. The building will be entered through a 3' -0" x 4' -6" board and batten door hung on wood hinges. It will have an earth floor. All wood shall receive a protective and waterproofing treatment. The soil within and for two feet outside the building perimeter will be treated for termites.
