An inventory of structures existing in the Great Smokies was made in the Spring of 1935. Architect Grossman was assigned to the Park to investigate the inventoried structures and record them, particularly the log structures whose methods of construction had changed but little since the first settlers came to the Park area near the close of the Revolution. The objectives of this study are: 1. to determine the appearance of the Chandler Jenkins Cabin in the years shortly after its construction and to evaluate the description of the cabin and details of its construction as described by Mr. William Baxter, and 2. to evaluate the pig pen and its construction based on photographs and other data in the Park files. It is proposed to move and restore the cabin and reconstruct the pig pen at the Braz Ogle Place on the Junglebrook Nature Trail. The cabin will be restored to its appearance about 1889 and the pig pen will be constructed based on photographs of the original pig pen and other evidence in the Park files. The cabin and pig pen will be units in the Braz Ogle open air museum of mountain culture.
