Stable Isotopes and Water Quality Parameters in Death Valley Waters
Moran J. Stable Isotopes and Water Quality Parameters in Death Valley Waters. Research Permit and Reporting System
Students discuss the concept that it would truly be "death valley" if not for the more than 800 springs and other points of groundwater discharge that supply water to plants, animals, park rangers, and visitors. Students use some basic field water quality analyses and powers of observation to develop hypotheses about water source areas and water flowpaths. After assembling data, students study the factors that control groundwater temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and discharge rate.
