Summary of 2019 Shorebird nesting season at Gulf Islands 3 units, Perdido Key, Fort Pickens, and Santa Rosa. A total of 784 nests were documented in 2019 for snowy plover (74), Wilson's Plover (9), Least Terns (693) and Black Skimmer (8). Hatch rates for plover species ranged from 51-88%. Hatch rates were lower for terns & skimmers and ranged from 12.1-36.0%. Predation was the primary source of loss, where ghost crabs, coyote, fish crow, and unknown are the most frequently documented.
