Unit boundary and unit areas of analysis (AOA) processing for National Park Service units: Fall 2019

Kinseth M and Nelson L. 2020. Unit boundary and unit areas of analysis (AOA) processing for National Park Service units: Fall 2019. Data Release Report. NPS/NRSS/DRR—2020/3. National Park Service. Fort Collins, Colorado. https://doi.org/10.36967/drr-2272016

This data report documents the acquisition, preparation, and creation of adjusted National Park Service (NPS) unit boundaries for use within the Inventory & Monitoring Program (I&M). The datasets are based on the NPS administrative boundary data release from the NPS Land Resources Division (LRD) as of September 2019 and supersede all previous releases of adjusted boundaries for use within the I&M Program. The LRD boundaries are included or, in some cases, are replaced with I&M operational boundaries to create an integrated dataset of NPS boundaries that are used for a spectrum of I&M activities. This integrated dataset is the foundation for several activities undertaken by the Inventory & Monitoring Program, including the NPS Environmental Settings protocol activities (DeVivo et al. 2018) and the IMD Inventory 2.0 program (DeVivo 2019), as well as several efforts being conducted by networks and parks. Boundary datasets documented in this report are intended only for use within the Inventory & Monitoring Program and may not include all parks, units, or other areas of interest to the NPS.
