The Jones Point Lighthouse and Keeper's Dwelling, with its related structures, presents a fairly coherent picture of a way of life that existed there between 1856 and 1919. From the first illumination of the lighthouse in May 1856 until automatic apparatus was installed in 1919, the lighthouse keeper maintained and operated this station, protecting shipping in the Potomac River near the busy harbors of Washington, Alexandria, and Georgetown. This report gives historical information concerning the various structures associated with the site.
