This report presents the methods to be used for restoration of this prime architectural historic structure at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. The restored historic home will serve as an exhibit presenting the life style of Don Lorenzo Hubbell and his family. It hopefully will convey to the visitor a vision of his taste and mode of living and will reflect the cultural adaptations this successful reservation trader underwent. The major proposed construction items presented in this report consist of 1. removal of the post-historic appurtenances to restore the Home's original character; 2. removal of the existing roof and replacing the historic style soil roof with a completely modern, insulated roof covered with soil-cement to restore visual integrity; 3. replacement of all unsound material with new material to match the original; 4. installation of a new and inconspicuous heating system to safeguard valuable artifacts; and 5. total refinish of both the interior and exterior of the Home in appropriate historic color and finish of the period.
