This Historic Structures Report concerns the Carriage House (HB-7) at John Muir National Historic Site. It is proposed to move this building to its correct setting and reconstruct/restore the building to its historic appearance. It will be furnished with carriages and/or wagons, tools, and tackle to interpret the transportation and ranch living conditions that existed during the Muir-Strentzel occupancy. This project will accomplish the relocation, restoration, and refurnishing of the carriage house. This building which during Muir's life had been located at the foot of the hill northwest of the Muir House, was later moved to its present site just east of the house. It has been used as a woodshed and shop by subsequent owners. It has been remodeled considerably in past years and although much of the original material is still incorporated in the building, restoration will involve almost complete reconstruction. This project should provide for the small amount of research needed before restoration can begin. This is a wood, frame, one story building about 18 feet x 21 feet.
