The blufflands along the Mississippi River in Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa hold a strong economic, cultural, historical, and environmental significance. They are home to unique habitats such as goat prairies and talus slopes that harbor both rare and endangered species. Due to the encroaching threat of development and habitat fragmentation, a need to protect and preserve the blufflands led to the creation of the Blufflands Alliance, an organization aimed at educating government entities and landowners about the importance of preserving the blufflands for the enjoyment of future generations.
