Vegetation Management Plan: Herbert Hoover National Historic Site West Branch, Iowa

NPS. 1977. Vegetation Management Plan: Herbert Hoover National Historic Site West Branch, Iowa

The National Park Service proposes to manage the restored prairie at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site by utilizing a combination of management techniques designed to promote the growth and development of native prairie plants. These techniques will be based on the management recommendations outlined in the Report on the Status and Management of Native Prairie Areas in the National Park Service, Midwest Region, by Dr. Roger Q. Landers, and will include rotational mowing, chemical weed control and the introduction of additional native prairie plants. A fire management program may be developed as an alternative to moving if mowing proves to be an ineffective management method.
