The collection of life history and food habits information about Notropis topeka was conducted from July 1979 through June 1981 in the Flint Hills tributaries of the Arkansas and Kansas Rivers. The primary study sites were used due to their relatively large populations of N. topeka. A headwater section of the South Fork of the Cottonwood River in Butler County served as the primary study area for the life history collections and field observations. The West Branch of Mill Creek in Wabaunsee County served as the primary study area for the food habits portion of the study.
