The purpose of this report is to provide a description of the socioeconomic environment encompassing the project region of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. The components of this environment include demographic patterns and trends, regional land use patterns, structure and recent trends in the region's economy, personal income and employment, poverty, and existing visitor services. The project region encompasses Chase, Morris, and Lyon counties in east central Kansas. The major findings of the report for each of the components of the socioeconomic environment are presented here.
