This document describes the data management procedures used to process the biological, spatial, and ancillary data relevant to the development of the Herbert Hoover NHS prairie monitoring geodatabase (GDB). Generally, data were imported into an existing vegetation monitoring database, verified against the original data, validated for errors, analyzed, and documented in the NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) national databases (i.e. NatureBib and NPSpecies). The GDB is a relational database management system (RDMS) compatible with NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) standards and allows for both data analysis within the Access environment and spatial queries within the GIS environment. The GDB follows the NPS standard Natural Resource Database Template (NRDT) and contains a form for selecting summary reports (site diversity, plant guilds, etc). Relational integrity is maintained within a GIS environment allowing complex spatial queries. Additionally, this document describes a brief overview of the geodatabase and presents some useful analyses.
