The Cultural Resources Inventory System (CRIS) is the National Park Service’s digital inventory of cultural resources on its lands. Its records -- maintained in part to comply with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, NPS Management Policies (2006), Director’s Order 28 (Cultural Resources) and Director’s Order 28a (Archeology) -- encompass Archeological Resources, Cultural Landscapes, Historic Structures, and Ethnographic Resources. Launched in 2018, CRIS incorporates complete sets of data migrated from the Archeological Sites Management Information System (ASMIS), the Cultural Landscapes Inventory (CLI), and the List of Classified Structures (LCS). It also includes a set of data elements migrated from the legacy Ethnographic Resources Inventory (ERI). The resource datasets are now identified as CRIS-AR, CRIS-CL, CRIS-HS, and CRIS-ER, respectively. This document provides guidance for CRIS users and contains information related to user roles, database access, navigation, and database actions. Supplemental technical documentation is available for further details about the functioning of the database (see cross-references).
