This Historic Structure Report concerns the structures formally named White Pass and Yukon Route/Pacific and Artic Railway and Navigation Company–Broadway Depot and General Offices Building at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Site, Skagway, Alaska. The park map included in the Master Plan identifies these buildings as 36A and 36B respectively. Throughout this report they are referred to as the depot and general offices buildings. The buildings are located adjacent to one another at the southeast corner of 2nd and Broadway within the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The property is approximately 100 feet square. Broadway is adjacent to the west side. Second Avenue to the north. A parking lot adjoins the east side while to the south is the narrow gauge track of the White Pass and Yukon Route. The exterior of these structures will be restored to the 1908-15 period. This period has been recommended to facilitate the interior use of the building (i.e., retention of the 1908 addition to allow for auditorium space) and provide a historically consistent exterior treatment. The interiors will be rehabilitated as needed to provide a functional visitor center and park offices. This will be done in a manner sympathetic to this historic fabric, which is to be conserved to a major degree. The first floor of the general offices building will house orientation for the Chilkoot Trail and an auditorium space. The depot first floor will house exhibitry and interpretative space. The second floor space will be utilized as artifact archive storage, park offices and library.
