This document includes guide specifications and sketches for structural repairs to 16 snow damaged buildings in the headquarter area at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The repair work is proposed be completed by park day labor crews. These buildings are on the List of Classified Structures, and are within a proposed Historic District. Based on this designation, the repair work is governed by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. The buildings in the headquarters area were subjected to very heavy snow loads in December 1992 and January 1993. During the week of January 19-22, 1993, 33 of the 48 buildings in the headquarters area were inspected by Kevin Baumgard, Structural Engineer, Western Team, Denver Service Center. The Structural Report on Snow Damaged Buildings in the Headquarters Area (Baumgard, March 1993) recommended intermediate repairs to 20 buildings. Four buildings (Nos. 5, 7, 9 and 671) were removed from the report's list of intermediate repairs to be completed by park day labor crews during the summer 1993. The three garages (bldg. nos. 5, 7, & 9) are proposed to be totally reconstructed and advertised for bid. Building No. 671 (residence) had eaves that severely deflected under the snow load. The park proposes to increase the roof slope on the building and did not want expend resources on the building.
